AGM 2020

Our AGM is scheduled for Wednesday 22 July at 6.30pm in Island Bay United’s clubrooms at Wakefield Park, Berhampore. All current members, and people wishing to join the club, are encouraged to attend.

If you are keen to join the committee for the 2020/21 season, please email your expression of interest to president@wellingtongaa.com by 4pm on Tuesday 21 July. A list of the committee’s roles and their responsibilities can be found below.

Committee’s roles & responsibilities

President – Uachtarán

  • Sets the committee meeting agenda, ensuring that other Committee members receive accurate, timely and clear information to enable them to take decisions; ensures that sufficient time is allowed for complex or contentious issues; and encourages active engagement by all members of the club
  • Chairs all Committee meetings
  • Represents the club to patrons, sponsors, members and the wider community
  • Partakes in and supervises sub-committees
  • Evaluates on a three-monthly basis, together with the Vice-President, the performance of each Committee member in his/her role and ensures that the performance of the club as a whole and its Committee is evaluated annually
  • Ensures effective communication throughout the club
  • Initiates change and planning succession in Committee appointments (other than in relation to the appointment of a successor as President)
  • Represents the club at GAA meetings in New Zealand as agreed
  • Together with the Secretary, agrees the times and places of the meetings of the Committee and presides at those meetings. The President may perform any other duties or functions that are assigned him/her by the Committee or club.

Vice President – Leas Uachtarán /Vice-Chairperson – Leas Cathaoirleach

  • If the President is absent or incapacitated or if the office of President is vacant, the Vice-President has the authority to exercise the powers and perform the duties and functions of the President during the absence, on the approval of the Committee
  • Supports the President in his/her duties, including the setting of the Committee agenda, ensuring that other Committee members receive accurate, timely and clear information and encouraging active engagement by all members of the Committee
  • Partakes in and supervises sub-committees
  • Supports the annual evaluation of each Committee member
  • Helps to ensure effective communication throughout the club
  • Together with the President, Secretary and other members as relevant, represents the club to patrons, sponsors, members and the wider community
  • Supports all other Committee members to fulfil their duties
  • Represents the club at GAA meetings in Wellington/New Zealand as agreed.

Secretary – Rúnaí

  • Works before, during and arising out of meetings, including the Annual General Meeting
  • Keeps records and files of the club activities, including membership details and all correspondence
  • Helps to ensure effective communication throughout the committee
  • Coordinates quarterly planning days for the club and meetings with coaches and social Gaelic football captains
  • Ensures continuity between meetings by liaising with President and other members as appropriate ahead of meetings and ensuring follow-up action has been taken as required
  • Together with Treasurer, responsible for maintaining membership/registration records of all players in the club
  • Responsible for player transfer
  • Together with Treasurer, responsible for fees and subs from players
  • Together with the President and other members as relevant, representing the club to patrons, sponsors, members and the wider community
  • Represents the club at GAA meetings in Wellington/New Zealand as agreed.

Treasurer – Cisteoir

  • Keeps records and files of club financial activities, including receipts and bank records
  • Prepares budget and pro-forma financial statements on an annual and interim basis
  • Examines income/expenditure in all areas during the coming year
  • Makes provision for expenditure in new areas
  • Provides committee with up to date, accurate financial information
  • Identifies financial needs and sets targets
  • Arranges for the payment of grants as agreed
  • Works with the President on sponsorship activities – is the point of contact for sponsors
  • Files the club’s annual return with Charities Services to maintain our charity registration
  • Maintains proper records of our fixed assets
  • Together with the Secretary, responsible for tracking fees and subs payment details from players
  • Together with the President and other members as relevant, represents the club to patrons, sponsors, members and the wider community
  • Represents the club at relevant Wellington/Hutt Valley GFHA meetings as agreed.

Public Relations Officer – Oifigeach Caidreamh

  • Updates the club Facebook page, Twitter account and club website
  • Publishes a regular club Newsletter using Mailchimp, gathering information from members and coaches
  • Creates online and physical club promotional material
  • Provides match results/fixtures and all relevant information to the public
  • Pro-actively contacts and build relations with the Wellington, Hutt Valley and Kāpiti Irish societies
  • Acts as liaison for the entertainment book fundraiser
  • Acts as the first point of contact for communications with the club and
  • Organises photography and/or videography for any club events
  • Provides Committee with a report on social activities
  • Creates and identifies opportunities for the promotion of the club to players, Irish societies and the wider community.

Events Officer – Oifigeach Imeachtí

  • Responsible for all social events throughout the year
  • Assists the PRO with creating/posting events on the Facebook page and keeps the PRO up to date on events
  • Assists the PRO with updates to the Newsletter
  • Provides Committee with a report/updates on club events
  • Keeps calendar full – Manages and/or advises on each fundraiser event
  • Organises the sub committees for each event.

Tournament Officer – Oifigeach Comortais

  • Organises all intercity tournaments, social Gaelic football and beach tournament, hosting other clubs in Wellington
  • Books pitches/indoor venues for training and liaising with coaches to confirm start date for training and how many sessions per week
  • Organises sub-committees for each tournament to help with team selection, referee and umpire rosters, team roster to help with setting up of posts, nets, equipment and BBQ
  • Helps organise all travel and booking duties for tournaments
  • Assists the PRO with updates to the newsletter
  • Provides the Committee with a report/updates on club tournaments.

Development/Cultural Officer – Oifigeach Forbartha/Culturtha

  • Acts as a champion for GAA within the club and the city
  • Coordinates skills session for socials
  • Being the first senior person that a new player meets – points out the respective coach, team, captain or senior that the player needs to know. A friendly face of the club – an approachable senior member to assist all players)
  • Liaises with and coordinates collaboration with partners (Irish and others cultural officers in NZ) to promote GAA through cultural activities
  • Works with Events Officer and Youth Officer to create occasions to promote Gaelic football/hurling to the wider community
  • Represents the club at relevant Wellington/NZ GAA meetings as agreed
  • Provides a report on what can be done to promote GAA
  • Works with other cultural groups and sports to find opportunities to promote Gaelic games.

Youth Officer – Oifigeach Oíge

  • Point of contact for coaches, parents and players in Kids GAA
  • Organises and coordinates Kids GAA program
  • Organises parent and other coaching training sessions
  • Working with the Treasurer in fundraising for the Kids GAA requirements
  • Promotes Kids GAA to other Irish groups and to the wider community
  • Proactively leads integration of Kids GAA into wider club activities
  • Liaises with other Youth Officers in NZ.
