Summer socials concludes

16 Feb

The 2022/23 summer socials season concluded on Saturday 11 February with our finals day at a sunny Ian Galloway Park.

In the football, we were served up some cracking games, including a shock final win for Trenbolone Sandwiches. Despite finishing the regular season with the wooden spoon, Trenbolone put in some stellar performances (and had some players turn up for once) to reach the final.

There they faced red-hot favourites and regular-season winners, Kāpiti Coast Keas. With momentum in their favour going into their third game of the day, the Sandwiches overcame the Keas by four points to record their first-ever finals win. Unfortunately for Keas, it's two post-Christmas final losses on the trot.

In the hurlogie, Byrne's Steak 'n' Chips and The Offaly Good Duggout went toe to toe all year, with the latter just edging the regular season. The final was Byrne's Steak 'n' Chips to savour, however, after their six-point win over their rivals.

Congratulations to our winning teams and to each team's most improved player. All were feted at the awards night in The Featherston following the finals. Huge thanks to all players, referees, volunteers, and sponsors for your contribution to the best social summer sports in Wellington.

Our attention now turns to the New Zealand Championships in Hamilton at the end of March. If any socials players fancy taking their game to the next level, you're more than welcome to come along to our training sessions.

In any case, we can't wait to see you all again next season.
